The 11-song album includes uptempo, reggae-infused tracks like "Where Have You Been," "Birthday Cake" and "You Da One," and slower love songs "We All Want Love" and "Farewell."
Producer Kuk Harrell, who worked with Rihanna on the album during her "Loud" tour, tells MTV the album is similar to "Loud."

"At points, it's a combination of edgy and passionate at the same time, and when you listen to the album, it's just like 'Loud,'" he explained. "She's at a place right now where her voice just sounds incredible, and she's such a great presence."
Kuk says he wasn't afraid of pushing her harder. "When she sings a line, if I don't think it matches the intensity of the lyric, then I'll go 'Man, push a little harder.'"
